The Malawi women national football team, the Scorches, will face Mozambique in the semi-final of the 2023 COSAFA women championship on Friday 13 October, 2023 at Lucas Moripe stadium in South Africa from 3:30 pm.
The Scorches managed to qualify for the semi-final after beating the host and favorites South Africa 4-3 on the opening day of the tournament, before thumping Eswatini 8-0 and registered a 3-1 win against Madagascar to record three wins out of three games.
So far, the Scorchers have scored 15 goals and conceded 4. The team has been awarded three player of the match awards. Scorchers captain Temwa Chawinga is the leading goal scorer at the tournament with 7 goals.
This is the second time for the Scorches to reach the semi-final stage of the COSAFA women’s championship after they finished as runners up in 2021 when they lost to Tanzania in the final 1-0.
The other semi-final will involve Zambia vs Zimbabwe / Botswana depending on the outcome of the match between Zambia vs Zimbabwe which will be played later today
