The Malawi women national football team, the Scorches, will arrive in the country today afternoon at 14:00 through Chileka airport from South Africa where they made history by winning the 2023 Hollywoodbets COSAFA women champion after defeating Zambia 2-1 in the final.

The Scorches registered a 100 percent record at the tournament by recording 5 wins out of 5 games, scoring 19 goals and conceding 6.
Stand in captain Temwa Chawinga was the star of the tournament as she managed to win the golden boot and player of the tournament awards. Chawinga managed to win the golden boot after scoring 9 goals in five matches she played.
On the road to the final the Scorches beat host South Africa 4-3, before defeating Eswatin 8-0 and concluded the group stage by defeating Madagascar 3-1. In the semi-final the Scorchers humbled Mozambique 2-1 and in the final Zambia could not escape the wrath of the Scorches as they won 2-1 to be crowed champions of the hollywoodbets Cosafa women championship for the first time.
