FLAMES GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH GUINEA

The Malawi National Football team, the Flames, will tomorrow play against Guinea at the Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe in a group D last game encounter in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Flames, are on third position in group D with 4 points behind leaders Egypt who have 12 points and second placed Guinea who have 9 points. Ethiopia who has the same number of points as the Flames, but differ on goal difference anchors the group.

Tomorrow’s game is a dead rubber as the result of the match will not have any impact on the top two teams Egypt and Guinea who already secured the top two spots in the group respectively and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals which will take place from 13th January to 11th February, 2024 in Cote D’voire.

Coach Patrick Mabedi named a 27-member final squad for tomorrow’s encounter which include four foreign based and 23 local players. The foreign based players include captain John Banda of UD Songo (Mozambique), striker Richard Mbulu of Costa Do Sol (Mozambique), forward Chawanangwa Kaonga of Zanaco (Zambia) and goalkeeper Brighton Munthali of Black Leopards.

Meanwhile the Guinea national football team has landed in the country today afternoon through Kamuzu International Airport
