16 swimmers have gone into two weeks selective camping at Sun ‘n’ Sand in Mangochi in preparation for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) region 5 under 20 youth games that will take place in Lilongwe from 2nd to 11th December, 2022.
The selective camping has started today and will finish on 23 July, 2022.
Swimming is the only sporting code that did not go into camp last month with other sporting disciplines because the weather that was experienced last month was not conducive for swimming hence the postponement of their camping to this month.
After this camping the swimmers will undergo residential camping where they will be monitored by their coaches, Malawi School Sports Association (MASSA) officials and Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Officials. The athletes will again go into camp in September before the final camping in November which will also lead Team Malawi to the games.
So far 293 athletes from ten sporting codes were selected during last month selective camping. Team Malawi is expected to have a total of 245 athletes from eleven sporting disciplines to represent the country during the Lilongwe games.
