DAY TWO OF ACTION

After a slow start on the opening day of the Malawi Youth Games national finals in Lilongwe, business was back to normal on the second day of the tournament as students from all the education division were in action to compete in different sporting codes including football, netball, chess, basketball, athletics and Volleyball to determine who will be champion.

In girls’ netball (secondary) South West Education Division (SWED) defeated Shire highlands Education Division 14-6 while Central West Education Division (CWED) walked over North East Education Division 15-7. In the primary category CWED were too good for Central East Education Division (CEED) as they won 19-6, while South East Education Division (SEED) were too good against North West Education Division (NWED) as they won 15-8. North East Education Division (NEED) drew with South West Education Division 8-8.

In Basketball SHED proved to be too strong for SEED as they won 78-22, While SWED defeated CEED 41-39. CWED defeated NEED 37-23 and SEED registered their second defeat of the day as they lost to SWED 30-42 On the other hand CEED recovered from their earlier defeat against SWED to overpower SHED 47-18.

There were goals galore in boys’ football (primary), SHED were 3-0 winners over NWED, while CWED lost to SWED 2-3. SHED registered their second win on the day as they defeated CEED 3-2. In the secondary category SHED drew with NWED 0-0, while CWED defeated SWED 4-0 while and SHED lost their second match of the day to CWED 1-2.

On the other hand, Chess, volleyball and athletics were also in action. The games are being played at Civo stadium, Nankhaka ground, Kamuzu Institute for Sports, Kamuzu barracks and Lilongwe community ground. The climax of the games will be on sunday at the Civo stadium in Lilongwe.
