THE LAST GROUP OF OFFICIALS AND ATHLETES ARRIVES IN THE COUNTRY

Dec 24, 2021 | News

Eight athletes and four officials who represented team Malawi at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 under 20 youth games early this month and were left behind in Maseru, Lesotho after they tested positive for Covid 19 have arrived in the country this afternoon through Chileka International Airport.

Initially the group was expected to arrive in the country early this week, but due to some logistical challenges their flight was delayed.

The group has spent twelve days in Lesotho receiving Covid 19 treatment and undergoing Covid 19 test to make sure that they arrive in the country free of the virus.

We at Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) would like to thank the Malawi and Lesotho governments for the job they have done for looking after our athletes and officials throughout the period they were diagnosed with Covid 19.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Foreign affairs and the High Commission in Pretoria who assisted Council with travel arrangement to make sure that the athletes enjoy the festive season with their families.

We also thank the parents, guardians and the public for being calm, patience and understanding during the time our athletes were being treated for Covid 19 in Lesotho.

As MNCS we are already looking forward to hosting the 10th edition of the AUSC Region 5 under 20 youth games next year December in Lilongwe.
