SPECIAL OLYMPICS MALAWI TEAM TO ARRIVE TODAY

The Special Olympics Malawi team will arrive in the country today afternoon through Chileka international airport from Berlin, Germany where the team took part in the 2023 Special Olympics world games which started on 17th June and ended on 25th June 2023.

The Special Olympics Malawi team manage to win a total of 9 medals (5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze) during the Special Olympics world games. The gold medals came through Victor Chikuse in men’s 100m swimming freestyle, the Bocce women doubles team of Melisa Phapa and Caroline Mogra also managed to win gold and Frank Chikolopiko won gold in Bocce men’s singles, while in tennis the gold came through Patrick Sichamba in men’s singles and another gold was won in the tennis mixed doubles team of Patrick Sichamba and Hannah winesi.

The two silver medals came through Emmanuel Banda in athletics. He finished second in the men’s 200 and 100m races respectively to claim silver for Malawi. While the Bronze medals were won by Naomi Fatchi in 50m backstroke female swimming and Bocce women’s singles.

The 2023 special Olympics world games were held under the theme ‘’Nothing about us without us having a say’’. The special Olympics world games are participated by athletes who have intellectual disabilities and the goal of the games is showcase the skills and accomplishments of people with intellectual disability on a global stage. The games take place after every two years.
