MINISTER VISITS ATHLETES IN CAMP

The Minister of Youth and Sports Honorable Richard Chimwendo MP yesterday visited athletes who are in camp in Lilongwe preparing for the African Union Sports Council region 5 under 20 youth games which will take place from 2nd to 11 December 2022 in Lilongwe.

The visit was aimed at motivating athletes who will represent the country during the games.

During his remarks the Minister highlighted the importance of the games to the country and the reason why the athletes must give it their all to make sure that as a country we win more medals

‘’ Competition must start from each person don’t give yourself any limitation, we must do our best because we are hosting the games, we must make sure that we do not disappoint our president Dr Lazarus Chakwera, you are carrying the Malawian flag, so carry it well and make the country proud’’ Explained the Minister.

Currently 305 athletes are in camp in Lilongwe and are camping at Lilongwe girl’s secondary school.

The sporting codes that have entered camp include Football, Volleyball, Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Para Olympics, Lawn Tennis, Judo, Taekwondo and Boxing. Swimming and E-sport will conduct their camping later on.

During the region 5 games in Lesotho last year Team Malawi managed to acquire 29 medals which include 2 gold, 10 Silver and 17 bronze.
