CHIGONJA WINS BRONZE AT SASAPD GAMES

Malawi’s Junior para-athlete, Mischeck Chigonja won his first international bronze medal at the 2023 South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (SASAPD) championship which was held at green point Athletic stadium in Cape Town South Africa on Sunday 19th March,2023.

Chigonja, a T37 athlete competed in the 100m event and finished on 18:37 which is his personal best.

The SASAPD games were conducted under the Gather, Adjust, Prepare and Sustain (GAPS) project which seeks to promote the development and welfare of junior para-athletes. The GAPS project also focuses on supporting the development of emerging para-athletes and coaches from the commonwealth countries, the games also acted as a preparatory stage for the youth commonwealth games to be held in August ,2023.

T37 is a disability sport in track and jump events. It includes people who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis.

Chigonja was accompanied by his coach Moses Mkondowe and are expected to arrive in the country today.
