Oct 3, 2022 | News

305 athletes have completed two weeks camping in Lilongwe where they were preparing for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 under 20 youth games which will take place in Lilongwe from 2nd to 11th December, 2022.

The camping started on 18 September and has concluded yesterday on 2 October, 2022. This was the second camping for team Malawi following the selective camping that took place in June in Blantyre.

Ten sporting codes namely Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Football, Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Lawn tennis and Para-athletics were in camp. Swimming and E-sports will conduct their camping later.

This time around girls under 17 football has been included as well as E-sports and Malawi will feature a team in each sporting code.

During the camping the Minister of Youth and Sport Honorable Richard Chimwendo Banda MP visited the athletes to motivate and highlight to them the importance of the games and the need to win more medals since Malawi will be hosting the games.

One of the highlights of the camping was when the under 19 Netball team beat Civil nets by 29 baskets to 18 at the Civo stadium.

After the two weeks camping the athletes will be engaged in residential camping where they will be monitored by their coaches, Malawi School Sports Association and Sports Council. The final camping will take place in November which will also lead the team to the games.
