Political Instability Affects Dates for inter Basketball Tourney

Officials from teams expected to compete in the third edition of Bravehearts International Basketball Challenge have been told to wait until a later date for this years’ tournament, citing for lack of peace in the country due to political unrest.

According to the Chairperson for the organizing committee, Daud Husseni, the tournament which was supposed to take place on 22 August at African Bible College (ABC) in Lilongwe has been slated for 24 August as tentative date.

“It is true that we have postponed the event to a date to be communicated. But as it stands, we have set aside 24 August as prospective date to conduct the tournament. So far, there is high level of looting, damage of goods and violent behaviors in the country. If the situation in the country does not improve soon, then teams and their officials will be advised on the way forward”, he said.

This year’s tournament has seen 12 foreign land-based teams and Ten local based clubs getting registered including defending champions Matero Magic of Zambia, Harare City Hornets of Zimbabwe, University of Zambia, Munali Suns and Hawks showed great interest. On the local scene, Bravehearts who are the hosts, Central Knights and Cougars charged for the event.
