Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Francis Phiso has advised the countries’ national sports associations that oversee different sporting disciplines to be resourceful through corporate partners. He made these remarks during the launch of the 2019 Central Region Gateway Netball Challenge Cup on Saturday, 3rd August in Lilongwe.
He further said corporate world relies on sports in order to have a conducive environment to connect with their potential and existing customers in large numbers.
“Business entities have products and services that they would like to promote and sell to the communities and the sports segment offers a good opportunity for this since it is visited by a cross-section of society “, he said.
The minister assured the people who came at the event that government will continue working with corporate world including Mpico Limited and Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) to develop sports in the country to another level.
Netball Associations of Malawi’s president, Khungekire Matiya promised to never to let down Mpico Limited.
“We have marketing plans to help us sell netball brand. We will manage the funds properly so that we can continue securing sponsorships from the corporate world”, she said.
In her conclusion, the NAM’s president asked coaches to take advantage of the sponsorship to scout for new talent from the district.
Damien Kafoteka, the managing director for Mpico Limited could not keep the excitement over their association with the winning brand.
“Queens have done anything possible by putting the country on the map and therefore making netball a winning brand. This is why we are benefiting a lot through this sponsorship since a lot of people come to watch netball and in the end publicizing our name Mpico Limited”, he said.
A total of 175 teams registered so far will compete for k 40 million that has been pumped in for this years’ Central Region Netball Challenge Cup.
